Default User Names tracking

Hi,

Do you have to add someone to the tool in order to track them? We sent out a survey to many people, of which most are not users of the tool. It shows blank under "User Names" for their Responses.

For the ones who were added to the tool, it indicates their active directory username.

thanks.

In order to further address your issue please answer the following questions.

1 - Which option did you select for Survey Security?
2 - How did you send out the invitations? If you used the products invitation manager what option did you use as the invitation source?

Unfortunately given your configuration I do not believe that you will be able to track User Names. Because your survey security is set to public anyone can take the survey, including users that do not have accounts and User Names are only tracked for logged in users.

So, what is the best practice to have users tracked?

The invitation system was designed to be anonymous. If you would like to track users my suggestion would be to change the survey security to either "Access List" or "All Registered Users". This will allow you to limit access to the survey to only respondents with user accounts.

Additionally this change will enable the "Automatically Logs User In option in the invitation manager. When enabled this option automatically logs registered users in when they click on their personalized invitation id. Please note that this feature requires you to use Users as the source of the invitation.

If you are comfortable with SQL you could use the hidden item feature to capture the invitation id and use this to join responses to invitations.
