Default Matrix - alternating columns?

I have a matrix with 2 sets of rating scales (each is 1-5). The way the styles read, it is hard to distinguish the 2 sets.

Is there a way to have the background colors display differently (i.e., one color in back of the first rating scale, and another color in back of the second rating scale), so that there are clearly 2 sets of 5 radio buttons, rather than one giant set of 10 radio buttons?

Alternately, making the border lines (which default to white) thicker or a darker color would work too.

Thanks!
Jan

This reply may be a little too late to help, but one option would be to move the matrix column that contains the row texts so that it is in between the two scales. That would help contrast the scales more.
